Pitt Graphite Pure Pencils earn their “pure” name due to their design. Instead of being encased in wood like Castell 9000 Graphite Pencils, they are wrapped in a plastic sleeve to maintain the purity of the graphite while still protecting the hand of the artist. These pencils are available in 4 degrees of hardness: hard black (HB), very soft very black (3B), extra soft and very deep black (6B and 9B.) The soft and dark degrees of pure lead pencils are ideal for creating high-contrasts and shading extended areas. The possibilities for spontaneous expression are unparalleled; create different effects of tone based on the varying pressure applied and grade of hardness. Pitt Graphite Pure Pencils can be sharpened with a hand-held sharpener.

Pitt Graphite Crayons provide graphite in a different form of graphite in the shape of a hexagonal crayon.  Graphite crayons are an ideal and economical medium for working on very large sketches and areas while their various edges provide a wide range of options, allowing various forms of artistic expression. Utilize the tip, edges, and flat sides of the crayon to create additional line variants or grip the crayon with an overhand grip to eliminate the visibility of stokes for even color laydown.  Some techniques that work best with graphite crayons include frottage and painting with a brush. Frottage is when you create a design by rubbing the graphite crayon over an object placed underneath the paper. Additionally, painting the surface with paraffin oil and a bristle brush can increase the intensity of the graphite when it is implied. Artists can find Pitt Graphite Crayons in very soft and black (2B), very soft and very black (4B), and extra soft and very deep black (6B and 9B). Graphite Crayons should be sharpened with a knife.
