Sketching in the Wild with Pitt Artist Pens

Blue cap sketch with Pitt Artist Pens and a pencil

Hi everyone, Mou Saha here with a field journal sketching tutorial on color sketching live events using Pitt Artist pens. Casual sketching at events can really help you improve your drawing skills. When I have a booth at art-in-the-park events, I take a small sketchbook or paper to draw in between people interactions.

Make quick and light sketches using Castell® 9000 Graphite Pencil - HB. Since people don’t stand still, just focus on getting very basic shapes at first. You can always erase and fine tune.

Go over the pencil sketch with Black Extra Superfine Pitt Artist Pen to define the outlines. Erase pencil lines if you like.

A blue cap sketch with two Pitt Artist Pens

I always like to keep notes that remind me why I chose to sketch a particular scene. I created a headline using Black Soft Brush Pitt Pen.

I wanted to draw attention to the part of the sketch my note is about – so I colored the girl’s cap with Phthalo Blue Brush Pitt Artist Pen.

With Superfine Black Pitt Artist Pen, I wrote the note about the girl with blue cap.

At events, people and animals move fast requiring me to sketch fast and I don’t get to obsess over perfection of each line. Try it next time you are out and about. It’s fun!
