Bird Postcard with Albrecht Dürer® Watercolor Markers
Hi everyone, Mou Saha here with an Albrecht Dürer® Watercolor Markers tutorial. Between Spring and Fall, my part of the world wakes up to the songs of many different birds. One of my favorites of these birds is the Eastern Bluebird and its cheerful chirp. In today’s tutorial, I am creating a postcard of an Eastern Bluebird using Albrecht Dürer Watercolor Markers.
Materials:
- Albrecht Dürer® Watercolor Markers - Set of 20
- Grip® 2001 Graphite Pencil - HB
- Kneadable Art Eraser - Grey
- Pitt Artist Pen® Extra Superfine - #199 Black
- Collapsible Water cup
- 6 Assorted Triangular Paint Brushes
- Watercolor paper
I am using 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper trimmed to 6 x 4.25 inches. I was very fortunate to have this bird perched outside my window long enough for me to make a few super quick sketches of its shape and some details. Refer to images online if you don’t have your own photo of the Eastern Bluebird. Also, feel free to draw a bird that YOU like.
Start with a light pencil sketch.
I picked blue and orange as those are the colors of the Eastern Bluebird. If you are drawing your own bird, choose colors that match your bird. Add first layer of color using the brush tip of the dual-tip Albrecht Durer Watercolor Marker.
Blend the colors with a paint brush dipped in water or use a waterbrush. Add more colors as you need. I prefer adding colors little by little in layers rather than in one go over a large surface area.
Continue to build the color layers. Add details with a Pitt Artist Pen.
Create a whole set of postcards of all your favorite birds. The Albrecht Dürer® Watercolor Markers are really easy to carry around if you like to sketch on the go. Just take a water brush and a watercolor paper pad with you when you travel and you’ll have a whole rainbow of colors to bring your sketches to life.
